Thunderhead Technologies, was formed in 1995 by Dan Hanson to market the WxStation software program. WxStation, since renamed to WxSolution and ported to Windows, has been running at his two automated weather stations in Taunton, Massachusetts since 1998 (previously in Baltimore, Maryland 1991-1998) and in Millersville, Maryland since 1989.
In early 1995, Dan also developed the Hanson Anemometer to allowed him make accurate wind speed measurements with a hand-held instrument. The unit performed so well as a hand-held device that he mounted the unit permanently at his family's summer house in New Harbor, Maine. The unit has been running continuously on a single battery for since July 1995 and logged over 40,000 miles of wind in its first year of operation!
